The military of Singapore, called the Singapore Armed Forces consists of an army, a Navy and an air force which is mainly tasked with the protection of its territorial integrity.

In total, Singapore spends US$11.211 million on its military, or 3.3 percent of its GDP. This makes Singapore the 23rd highest military spender in the world and represents 0.58 percent of total global military expenditure.

Despite being ruled by a single political party since its independence, Singapore has some of the lowest government corruption in the world and a well-established judicial system. However, there are some concerns regarding its political process as well as human rights, freedom of the press and freedom of expression. This makes Singapore the 88th most democratic state in the world.

Singapore 

Known for its gardens, its cuisine as well as being at the center of a large shipping point, Singapore has been a point of interest for several global powers throughout the 20th century. Before contact with the Europeans, the area was inhabited by the Malaysian people. Only at the start of the 19th century did the British and the Dutch create a trading post in the area and in the second half of the 19th century, it became an official colony of the United Kingdom and became the largest British Navy port of the eastern hemisphere. After being occupied by the Japanese during the second world war, it once again became a colony of the United Kingdom with increasing amounts of freedom until its independence in 1965. Since then, Singapore has enjoyed high economic developments and transformed itself into an economic powerhouse.

 Being an island state, as well as a city state located in Southeast Asia, the geography of Singapore mainly consists of hilly terrain which is largely urbanized with the exception of three natural reserves. Despite being an island state, it borders Malaysia through two separate bridges. 

It is the 175th largest state with a total surface area of 732 square kilometers or 282 square miles. This makes Singapore slightly smaller than Micronesia and slightly larger than Tonga. 

It has a total water surface area of 10 square kilometers or 4 square miles. This makes Singapore the 149th largest state in the world.

Singapore has diversified its drinking water which comes from groundwater, desalinated water as well as imported water from Malaysia and is safe to drink. The climate of Singapore is a tropical climate which is hot and humid all year around. The average temperature is 26.5 degrees Celsius or 80 degrees Fahrenheit. This makes Singapore the 28th warmest state in the world. 

The average high temperature is 30.1 degrees Celsius or 86 degrees Fahrenheit. 

The average low temperature is 23.6 degrees Celsius or 74.5 degrees Fahrenheit. 

Rain is unevenly spread out throughout the year with December to March and June to September receiving high amounts of rainfall due to monsoons that deliver moderate to heavy rainfall. On average, Singapore receives 224.6 centimetres or 88.4 inches of rainfall per year which ranks it as the 23rd highest in the world. 

The capital of Singapore, Singapore, is home to approximately 5.5 million people. The closest capital is Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with a distance of 290 kilometers or 180 miles. The capital that is the furthest removed is Quito, Ecuador, with a distance of 19.745 kilometers or 12.269 miles.  

The economy of Singapore is a highly developed free market economy which has strong industries in the pharmaceutical, electronics and financial services. Its economy has grown steadily over the last three decades and unemployment has remained relatively low. Most of the products that are exported are petroleum, electronics and chemicals which are mainly exported to China and Malaysia which combined represent roughly 35 percent of all exports. Most of its imports comes from China, Malaysia and the United States which is also around 35 percent.

It has a GDP of US$351.374 million, which makes it the 36th highest in the world and represents 0.42 percent of total global GDP.  

Its GDP per surface area is the 2nd highest in the world with US$480.254.714 per square kilometer or US$1.244.218.617 per square mile.  

Its GDP per capita is the 9th highest in the world with US$60.560.

Due to its central shipping location, Singapore has attracted many ethnicities from the region. The majority of the population are Chinese descendants as well as descendants from Malaysia while there is also a smaller Indian population. In total, Singapore houses 5.8 million people which makes it the 113th most populous state in the world. 

It has the 2nd highest population density in the world with 7907 people per square kilometer or 20.484 people per square mile.  

Around six percent of the population, or just over 340,000 people, have migrated to other states. This makes Singapore the 122nd state with the highest number of emigrants and represents 0.14 percent of total global emigration. The main destinations have been Malaysia, Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States either due to its proximity or because it has English has its official language. 

Immigration to Singapore is represented by 32.3 percent of the population, or just over 1.8 million people. This makes Singapore the 29th state with the highest number of immigrants and represents 0.74 percent of total global immigration. Because of its economic growth as well as a high GDP per capita, Singapore has become an attractive destination throughout the region. The main suppliers of migrants have been Malaysia, China, India and Indonesia which combined percent 50 percent of all migrants. 

The educational system of Singapore is free and compulsory between the ages of four and 16. It follows a Western model which has primary secondary and tertiary education. However, with a total literacy rate of 96.5 percent, it is the 76th most literate state in the world. 

The health care system of Singapore is one of the most developed healthcare systems in the world. The government provides free and universal healthcare for its citizens. The average life expectancy is 84.1 years which is the 4th highest in the world. Women have an average life expectancy of 86.2 years, while men have an average life expectancy of 82.1 years. 

The government of Singapore provides freedom of religion towards all religions. In some instances, there are limitations to these freedoms in regard to public speech. However, Singapore is currently ranked as the most multi religious state in the world. 

Christianity is represented by 15.2 percent of the population which makes it the 146th most Christian state in the world. The largest denominations are Catholicism as well as Protestantism and have been introduced to Singapore during its colonial era.

Islam is represented by 14.4 percent of the population and is mostly represented by immigrants from Malaysia. These Malaysians follow the Sunni branch of Islam with the Hanafi school of thought. 

Buddhism is represented by 33.9 percent of the population and is the largest religion present in Singapore. It has been introduced to Singapore throughout the centuries when Buddhist from all over southeast Asia settled there. 

Hinduism is represented by 5.13 percent of the population and is mainly represented by descendants of Indian migrants that were relocated by the British Empire. Other adherents to Hinduism also come from India and have voluntarily migrated over the last few decades. These migrants were mainly attracted by Singapore due to its labour shortages. 

Judaism is represented by 0.04 percent of the population. 

Other religions represent eighth percent of the population. There is not a single large non-mainstream religion, but there are numerous smaller religions that were allowed to settle there or came there due to political persecution by other states. 

Irreligion is represented by nearly 11 percent of the population.
