The military of St. Kitts and Nevis is tasked with ensuring its internal security as well as its maritime borders. Before its independence, the Army mainly consisted of volunteers, but with the rise of international drug trade as well as an increase in natural disasters, the government has decided to create a professional army.

In general, St. Kitts and Nevis holds free and fair elections. Due to the ability of certain regions to act independently from the government, it is considered to be fairly democratic. However, there are still some concerns surrounding government corruption as well as discrimination that takes place on the basis of sexual orientation.

Saint Kitts and Nevis 

Known for its tropical vegetation, its white beaches as well as its black beaches, St. Kitts and Nevis has had a stable period since its independence. Before its contacts with Europeans, the area was inhabited by the Arawak tribe which were Caribbean natives. After Christopher Columbus explored the island at the end of the 15th century, the British took control over the island at the start of the 17th century. After several skirmishes with the French, the British reestablished their control over the island where they placed African slaves for its agricultural exports. After the second world war, Britain entered a period of decolonization which ultimately led to independence of St. Kitts and Nevis in 1983. Since then, it had several anti-government demonstrations, but has overall remained stable.

 Located in the Caribbean, the geography of St. Kitts and Nevis is mainly made up of volcanic mountains that are located in the center of its two islands which are named St. Kitts and Nevis. Its volcanic mountains are densely forested and slowly shift into grasslands along its coastal area. As an island state, it does not border any other states, but it has the Pacific Ocean to the northeast and the Caribbean Sea to the Southwest. 

It is the 187th largest state with a total surface area of 262 square kilometers or 102 square miles. This makes Saint Kitts and Nevis slightly smaller than the Marshall Islands and slightly larger than the Maldives. 

It has a total water surface area of square kilometers or square miles. This makes Saint Kitts and Nevis the largest state in the world.

The main source of drinking water is rainwater as well as groundwater which is treated with chlorine and is safe to drink.

The climate of St. Kitts and Nevis is considered to be a tropical climate with hot and humid weather all year round. The average temperature is 25.45 degrees Celsius or 78 degrees Fahrenheit. This makes Saint Kitts and Nevis the 49th warmest state in the world. 

During summer, from June to August, the average high temperature is 29.2 degrees Celsius or 85 degrees Fahrenheit. 

During winter, from December to February, the average low temperature is 23.3 degrees Celsius or 73.9 degrees Fahrenheit. 

Rainfall is unevenly spread out throughout the year with its summer period receiving 2 to 4 times as much precipitation compared to its winter period. Saint Kitts and Nevis receives 116.3 centimetres or 45.8 inches of rainfall per year which ranks it as the 79th highest in the world. 

The capital of St. Kitts and Nevis, Basseterre is home to approximately 13,000 people. The closest capital is Saint John’s, Antigua and Barbuda, with a distance of 93 kilometers or 58 miles. The capital that is the furthest removed is Dili, Timor-Leste, with a distance of 18.710 kilometers or 11.626 miles.  

Before its independence, the islands of St. Kitts and Nevis were mainly used for sugar plantation. However, after a sharp decline in global sugar prices, and the independence of St. Kitts and Nevis, the economy has become highly dependent on tourism. Most of its exported goods are gold, electronics and tobacco which are mainly exported to the United States which is solely responsible for nearly 70 percent of all exports. Most of its imports also comes from the United States which represents just over 65 percent of all imports. 

Saint Kitts and Nevis is a member of 10 international economic organizations. This makes it the 162nd most connected state in the world. It is a member of the following organizations:

Its GDP per surface area is the 34th highest in the world with US$3.779.958 per square kilometer or US$9.768.010 per square mile.  

Its GDP per capita is the 46th highest in the world with US$18.389.

With a total population of nearly 54,000 people, St. Kitts and Nevis is the 188th most populous state in the world. Because of its colonial history, the majority of the population is predominantly black and has English has its official language. 

It has the 51st highest population density in the world with 205 people per square kilometer or 530 people per square mile.  

55.8 percent of the population, or just over 30,000 people have migrated to other states. This makes St. Kitts and Nevis the 178th state with the highest number of emigrants and represents 0.013 percent of total global emigration. The main destinations have been the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada because of their more developed economies as well as having the same official language. 

Immigration to St. Kitts and Nevis is represented by 1.8 percent of the population, or approximately 1000 people which are mainly economic migrants from Guiana. 

With the literacy rate of 97.4 percent, St. Kitts is the 68th most literate state in the world. Education is compulsory between the ages of five and 16 and is available to all children. 

The health care system of St. Kitts and Nevis has made large improvements over the last three and decades. The population of St. Kitts and Nevis is currently challenged with communicable as well as noncommunicable diseases. The noncommunicable diseases are mainly found in a high share of obesity and obesity related diseases. Communicable diseases are mainly mosquito borne diseases such as Zika and Chikungunya. The average life expectancy is 76.02 years which is the 47th highest in the world. Women have an average life expectancy of 78 years, while men have an average life expectancy of 74 years. 

The government of St. Kitts and Nevis provides freedom of religion towards all religions as well as the ability to change their religion. 

With a total of 78.8 percent of the population adhering to Christianity, St. Kitts and Nevis is the 55th most Christian state in the world. The majority of the Christian population adheres to Protestantism followed by the Pentecostal denomination and the Anglican church. 

Islam is represented by 0.3 percent of the population which makes it the 143rd most Islamic state in the world. St. Kitts and Nevis houses two mosques as well as several Muslim organizations. 

There are no official Buddhist organizations in St. Kitts and Nevis. 

Hinduism represents one percent of the population and mainly consists of migrants from the Indian subcontinent. 

Judaism is currently not present in St. Kitts and Nevis. 

Other religions are represented by 1.46 percent of the population. These are mainly adherents to Rastafarianism as well as the Baha'i faith. 

Irreligion is represented by 1.1 percent of the population.
